I’m from Llangollen in North Wales, I decided to study radiography because as a career it combines my interest in human biology with the enjoyment of working with people

I choose to study the radiography course at Leeds because it seemed to offer most time in clinical placement, which is definitely where you learn the most about being a radiographer. I met some amazing people whilst at Leeds and the relationships I built with course mates were far better in a class of around 50, than being in a far larger class – particularly as you go on clinical placement together.

I have always found physics tricky and was worried about it prior to starting the course, but it wasn’t too bad in the end. I was also lucky enough to spend 3 weeks working in a hospital in Denmark as part of my international module, it was amazing to experience how radiography differs in other countries and the staff there were lovely!

I was placed at Leeds General Infirmary, it was a wonderful place to work and the staff we’re so helpful. During my second year I went to Hull Royal Infirmary, which was an hour train ride and stay in a hostel, all travel and hostel costs were covered, but usually at a later date. Being placed between 2 sites gave us insight into how different trusts operate. Preparing us well for future careers.

The lecturers are enthusiastic and very approachable, they were always there to ask questions if needed. The healthcare library became very useful as sometimes it was the only quiet place to study. Leeds is a fantastic place to study, I would definitely recommend it! There is so much on offer at the university, and it is so easy to get to know people on the course. I was a member of the radiography society, we would organise all kinds of social events for radiographers throughout their 3 years, it was a lot of fun.

I am passionate about radiography because every day is different, you never know what patient is going to come through the door and that keeps things interesting.
