Technical Suites

These dedicated and independent technician-led suites support the core research of LICAMM researchers and students.  They also support  collaborators from other research institutes and those working in industry.  
We welcome enquiries from researchers working outside of LICAMM.  If you are interested in using any of our technical suites please get in touch with the relevant suite lead, as named below.  We are able to offer equipment and workstation bookings, and can also provide training on specialist equipment.

Blood analysis

A suite where you can investigate the properties of whole blood and the processes involved in haemostasis and thrombosis eg platelet aggregation clot formation, fibrinolysis etc. The blood analysis suite (Worsley 5.06) is also home to the NIHR Bioresource lab.

Histology

A suite where you can prepare, mlount and differentially strain tissue to examine tissue structure and morphology.

Equipment:

  • Microtomes (Leica)

Metabolic

A suite where you can investigate oxygen consumption and markers of mitochondrial activity in tissue and live cells, investigate calcium flux and the effects of sheer-stress on cultured cells, and small vessel contraction.

A suite where you can image cells using a variety of microscopes (brightfield, fluorescence)

Molecular Biology
A suite where you can perform RNA isolations, cDNA synthesis, PCR and measure mRNA expression.

Bioanalytical
A suite where you can perform flow cytometry, purify proteins and investigate/identify e.g. small molecules using HPLC and mass spectrometry.
