About us
What we do
Through our ability to integrate scholarship, research, education and innovation, we aim to be considered one of the world's foremost centres of excellence in medical education.
At the Leeds Institute for Medical Education (LIME) we have six ASPIRE awards, for Excellence in; Student Engagement, Student Assessment, Social Accountability, Curriculum Development and Faculty Development.
Our Annual Report for the academic year 2017/2018 is now available to view and download.
Our successful two-day Annual Student Achievement and Support Conference has been running for six years. This well-attended event provides a continuing professional development opportunity for colleagues in Leeds and at medical, dental and veterinary schools from across the UK. This success is underpinned by our research and scholarship work, ensuring that we have a sound theoretical basis to the educational activities we provide.
LIME has strong links with national and international organisations for medical education including the Association for the Study of Medical Education (ASME), the Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE) and the American Educational Research Association (AERA). This allows LIME staff members to link directly into the latest developments and to shape trends in medical education. These developments are shared with clinical teachers in the local region through our Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme, postgraduate courses, and Clinical Education Network.
LIME is committed to providing all students with an excellent educational experience and has particular strengths in a number of areas. We continue to build on our achievements and develop academic and industrial collaborations in the area of technology and education by:
- Investing in the areas of technology which support graduates to enter a very different workplace eg using hand-held ultrasound technology.
- Immersive Media Technology to allow the development of augmented and virtual reality to provide realistic simulation opportunities for students.
- Investing in surgical training hardware to enhance the successful surgical training courses run between Anatomy and the School of Surgery.
