Welcome to the Division of Molecular Medicine (MMED)
Head of Division: Professor Colin Johnson
Deputy Head of Division: Professor Susan Burchill
MMED benefits from expertise in two areas of healthcare research, cancer and rare diseases. We are united by the translational goal of improving outcomes for patients worldwide and our research builds on shared technology platforms. These include next generation sequencing, cellular imaging and the development and study of preclinical cellular disease models. Research in MMED transfers insights and discoveries from basic science to the clinic for patient benefit, as exemplified through the hosting of the joint UoL/NHS-run Next Generation Sequencing Facility, Flow and Imaging Facility, neuro-oncology tissue bank, Leeds Centre for Disease Modelling and International Research in Childhood Cancer Clinical Trials. MMED also hosts or co-hosts three MSc courses and the LIMR international PhD academy, as well as contributing substantially to teaching on the MBChB.
