Welcome to the Division of Oncology (ONCO)

Co Head of Division: Professor Ann Henry and Professor Dan Stark

Oncology has over 40 clinical cancer researchers. We deliver improved NHS cancer care and are leaders in national and international research studies and clinical trials.

Our areas of excellence include:

Cancer Research UK Leeds Radiation Research Centre of Excellence (RadNet Leeds)

CRUK RadNet Leeds delivers world-class research and innovation so that cancer patients can access smarter, kinder radiotherapy treatments. Our physicists, oncologists, radiographers, radiologists, virologists, biochemists and data scientists use  discovery biology, functional and anatomical imaging, artificial intelligence, cancer pathology, real-world data and clinical trials to optimise personalised and adaptive radiotherapy, re-irradiation and investigate radiotherapy response and resistance.

Improving Patient-centred Care and Clinical Monitoring

Our 20-year portfolio of research has advanced the techniques and application of digital patient-reported outcome measures for care and monitoring within oncology practice (pcor.org.uk). Our EU Horizon Europe programme, the MyPath research project that developed a novel digital solution consisting of electronic patient-centred care pathways – custom-made for each individual, including real-time communication of symptoms and care preferences.

Teenagers and Young Adults (TYA) with Cancer

Our research identified poor cancer treatment outcomes in teenagers and young adults aged 13-24 because of nonspecialised NHS treatment. We created a new national policy to enhance specialised NHS services for this age group. The impact of this policy is increased survival, Quality of Life and satisfaction with care.
