LIMR HAIM NEWS EVENTS
HAIM Events
HAIM staff regularly present at research conferences, give invited lectures to colleagues worldwide, to funders, and to patient groups. We also host on site laboratory visits for our charity funders. Learn more about our recent presentations and outreach below.
HAIM all staff division meeting
Gina Doody and Robert Salmond hosted our latest all staff division meeting. We were updated with the latest research progress by all group leaders. This was followed by pizza, cake and fruit.....and what turned out to be a very challenging quiz. Thanks to our excellent quizmaster, Richard Baugh. It was lots of fun!
First session of the Knowledge Swap Cafe initiative
Congratulations to Abi Connor (HAIM) and Liz Roundhill (MMED), who have secured funding for a 'Knowledge Swap Cafe' initiative, to promote the sharing of research knowledge in an informal environment between all researchers based at the St James' campus. The first session took place on Tuesday 24th March and was a resounding success. Then next session is scheduled for July.
Patient support in York
Ulf Klein has recently presented his work to lymphoma and myeloma patients at the York Haematology Support Group. This patient-support group offers the chance for people affected by blood cancer to get together in an informal setting, to chat and share their experiences. A guest speaker is invited to most meetings. Prof Klein has talked about his experience in haematological research gained during his career in various countries. He also presented examples from his research on understanding why lymphomas and myeloma arise, and how this information can be exploited for developing tailored treatments.

American Society of Haematology (ASH) Conference
Congratulations to Matt Holt (clinical fellow) on winning an ASH-IPIG Abstract achievement award for his poster on PNH breakthrough haemolysis at this year’s Annual Meeting.
At the same meeting both Charlotte Evans (pictured) and Surita Dalal gave oral presentations on their work on the chronic lymphocytic leukaemia FLAIR trial, work generously funded by the Hunter family through Leeds Hospitals Charity.
Abdullah Al Marzouq (PhD student) presented his abstract on drug resistance in multiple myeloma.
Advancing HAIM Flow Core Facilities
Liz Straszynski attended the ThermoFisher SpectraVision Summit, an immersive spectral flow cytometry event in Darmstadt, Germany to advance her skills and knowledge in cutting‑edge spectral analysis.
This new expertise will support all reasearchers in HAIM, to build bigger flow panels and generate more data. In turn this will expand our experimental portfolio.
Advances in Ewings Sarcoma Conference
Tyler Barr (pictured) and Richard Baugh both presented a poster describing their recent work at AESC, funded by the Bone Cancer Research Trust.
Tyler fielded lots of questions, and Richard was awarded one of the poster prizes. Congratulations to both of you!
Lab visit from the Bone Cancer Research Trust
Tyler Barr, Richard Baugh and Fay Ismail hosted a visit from the team at the Bone Cancer Research Trust, that funds their critical research.
The BCRT team toured the labs and were updated on the latest research developments on the projects. They also participated in what might well be the first ever pipetting olympics!! A great day had by all.
International Oncolytic Virus Conference
Richard Baugh recently attended the International Oncolytic Virus Conference held in Rotterdam. He gave an oral presentation in the Early Career Researcher session describing his latest research on the efficacy of oncolytic virus in the treatment of Ewings Sarcoma.
