LIMR PADA PPIEP
Patient and Public Involvement, Engagement and Participation
Patient and Public Involvement, Engagement and Participation (PPIEP) is a core component of research and something that colleagues in PADA integrate into their work routinely throughout the year. We work closely with patient representatives to ensure that our research priorities are appropriate, that study designs and recruitment plans are suitable, and that the interpretation and dissemination of results are clinically relevant and patient‑centred.
The PADA team has hosted patient groups and charity staff for laboratory visits, offering first‑hand insight into where and how our research is conducted. Through the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre (BRC), we have also taken part in community outreach events aimed at engaging underserved communities and promoting equitable involvement in research.
Academic and clinical staff are supported at all events by PADA technicians and students, which strengthens working relationships across roles. This collaborative approach ensures that colleagues at all levels can contribute meaningfully and see, first‑hand, the positive impact their work has on patients and the wider public.
Be Curious
We actively participate in the University’s annual Be Curious event Be Curious | University of Leeds, where researchers from across all Faculties showcase their work to members of the public, with a strong focus on making research accessible and engaging for children. Our funders and industrial collaborators often provide merchandise to support these activities, and PPIE grants from the Pathological Society of Great Britain and Ireland have enabled us to deliver more ambitious and interactive public‑facing events.
