LIMR MRes

PADA Academics Dr Susan Richman and Dr Henry Wood are Co-Programme Leads of the Master of Research in Medicine (MRes Medicine) degree. The MRes Medicine has been structured to resemble a mini-PhD, embedding students in one of the University’s internationally renowned institutes, to learn from leading experts.

The year focusses around a nine-month (120 credit) research project, designed to challenge critical thinking and explore the causes and consequences of diseases. Students have the option to either select a project from a list submitted by experienced supervisors in applied health, cancer and pathology, cardiovascular, genes and development, medical education and musculoskeletal topics, or can self-design in an area of particular interest.

All the taught components are research-led and provided through lectures and interactive small-group teaching sessions. Students are provided with training and opportunities to develop as a scientist or scientifically literate clinician, resulting in a comprehensive understanding of the concepts and techniques relevant to medical research.

Some of our previous students have published their work in peer-reviewed journals (view here and here), and have had the opportunity to present at national and international conferences. Our MRes students frequently use the experience gained as a springboard to a PhD, a career in industry, or a clinical academic position.
