Niamh: The friends that I’ve found through nursing are honestly friends that I believe I’m going to have for life. 

(On screen shows Niamh and Adrianna working together on laptops and chatting in their accommodation.) 

Niamh: The nursing community is such a strong community.

Niamh: It’s really nice to feel like you have that support.

Niamh: I’m Niamh. I’m a third-year student Adult Nurse.

Niamh: The reason why I chose the University of Leeds is because I just really loved how the course was set out, how the placement blocks were separate to the teaching. I just thought this is where I want to do nursing.

Louis: The offer holder day kind of doubly sealed the deal for me.

Louis: It really gives you an idea of what you’re actually going to be doing here as a student nurse.

 Louis: My name’s Louis. I study Mental Health Nursing at the University of Leeds. Highlight of the course so far?

Louis: Definitely some of the placements I’ve been on.

Louis: You really feel like you’re making a difference and that you’re part of the team there. 

 (On screen shows Adrianna and Niamh in a simulation suite, practising bandaging a wound on a human patient simulator.) 

Adrianna: The facilities that I use are the simulation suites

Adrianna: It’s really good practice to be able to put that into practise when we go out into placement and that obviously helps us build the confidence, it applies the knowledge that we’ve learnt.

Adrianna: Hi. My name’s Adrianna. I’m an Adult Nurse at the University of Leeds and I’m in my final year.

Adrianna: What made me want to be a nurse, was I went through a career change.

Adrianna: I was working at my local GP practice during COVID, and I could see the amazing work all the nurses were doing, and it was something that inspired me personally.

Louis: I narrowed it down kind of gradually over my education.

Louis: What subjects do I like? I quite like biology. I quite like helping people.

Louis: I thought nursing. Nursing seems like a good career to get into.

Niamh: I always knew that I wanted to help people.

Niamh: And I’m just inspired by all the nurses as well and I think it’s such a rewarding occupation.
