The School of Healthcare runs a developing portfolio of CPD courses. These courses are delivered by leading educators with experience across the NHS, psychotherapy, trauma, higher education, and wellbeing settings and can offer participants a variery of practical skills. Taking part you will:

  • Develop practical tools that can immediately be applied in practice.
  • Increase confidence in responding to trauma sensitively and safely.
  • Deepen relational and reflective skills.

Working Creatively in Mental Health Practice: Experiential Tools to Enhance Relational Depth with Clients  – short course (non-credit bearing)

This course offers an engaging opportunity to explore how creative and experiential approaches can enrich work with people across a range of settings. Grounded in relational and humanistic principles, the training introduces methods such as arts-based work, imagery, and embodied techniques to support deeper connection and emotional understanding—especially when words feel limited. The course combines clear theory, live demonstration, and practical exercises, helping participants both understand the ideas behind these approaches and develop simple, usable tools they can take into their own practice or professional role. It is interactive and participatory, with small-group activities and experiential learning, creating a supportive space to explore and reflect. Suitable for a wide range of professionals and those with an interest in creative ways of working with others.

Trauma Informed Practice – short course (non-credit bearing)

This professional development course provides an advanced understanding of trauma and its impact on individuals and communities. Participants will explore key trauma theories, including developmental, relational, neurobiological, somatic and socio-cultural perspectives, and learn how these inform trauma-informed care. The course emphasizes practical application of core principles: safety, choice, collaboration, empowerment, and cultural humility across clinical, educational, and community settings. It includes discussion of trauma presentations such as PTSD and CPTSD, strategies for maintaining psychological safety, and approaches to prevent vicarious trauma and burnout. Through interactive sessions and experiential activities, participants will build confidence in integrating trauma-informed practices ethically and sensitively, while working effectively in interprofessional teams.
