Why did you choose the School of Healthcare at the University of Leeds? 

I have wanted to work in healthcare for as long as I can remember. At one of the open days, I ended up in the wrong room by mistake, and stumbled upon the nursing cohorts and current students who were running the day. After talking to them and seeing how much they loved the course and seeing the clinical skills suite, I knew I wanted to attend this University and study Child Nursing. 

Why did you choose your course? 

Working with children and families has always been a goal for me, as well as working in healthcare. Chid nursing seemed to bring the best of both of those worlds together for me. The work that nurses do is invaluable, and our healthcare system would not stand without them. Seeing children in hospital is never a nice experience, but knowing that you can make their day slightly more pleasant is one of the best feelings. 

What has been the highlight of the course? 

Placement is by far the best part of the course, being able to get out into practice and apply all of the theory we have learned on real patients and families is so rewarding. 

What do you plan to do after graduation? 

I plan to continue to work in Leeds Teaching Hospitals in Oncology and Haematology, caring for children day in and day out, building relationships with them and their families, and providing the best evidence based, person-centred care I can. 

What do you think of Leeds and Yorkshire? 

Leeds is a fantastic city that is not too big and not too small, it is just right! There is everything you could need at your disposal –  brilliant transport systems, great nightlife, beautiful countryside and some of the nicest people you will ever meet!
