Sunniya Hussain BA social work student case study 2018

Sunniya Hussain

The University is ranked within the top 10 for Social Work on the Guardian’s League Table and had a great atmosphere when I attended the open day and all of the equipment and facilities at the School of Healthcare are good.

I was studying at 6th form, where I undertook a-levels and I volunteered on a weekly basis within a nursing care home where I supported elderly residents with complex needs. I always knew that I wanted to go into the healthcare profession, where I can make a difference in the lives of others. My placements have built upon this, I have gained a range of experience through work-place experience and my 2 placements, including a secondary school, adults with learning disabilities care management team and medical social work within a hospital. Additionally, I have found the psychology elements very interesting.

All of the staff and tutors have been very supportive, communicated on a daily basis in person and via email. Also, received some good feedback on assignments and exams which has helped me develop my academic skills.

I would definitely recommend the university and the course, as career opportunities in social work are excellent. The degree provided me with in-depth knowledge of theories and research skills which I can apply in any field of social work. It also taught me strong problem-solving skills whilst applying the strength-based approach and the coordination of multiple tasks.

The city of Leeds is great, there always lots to do and to participate in. The city centre nearby to the campus which makes living in Leeds really accessible.
