Lucile Ferraris
- Course: Midwifery (Blended Learning) BSc
Why did you choose the School of Healthcare at the University of Leeds?
I fell in love with the beautiful and lively campus and I really liked the clinical suites attached to the School of Healthcare. It's here where we learn and practice midwifery skills before going on placement such as simulated births and venepuncture.
Why did you choose your course? Why is it important for you to be studying it?
I chose to study midwifery because I want to care for and support women and families through one of their most vulnerable times in their lives.
What were you doing before you started studying here?
I lived in France and studied graphic design and communication but realised that this wasn’t what I wanted to do as a job.
What has been the highlight of the programme/course?
Being on placements, discovering different maternity services and practising midwifery from the first year of the course, is really great.
Did any particular modules or projects impress you?
I loved learning about active birth and the management of postpartum haemorrhage in clinical skills during the 3rd module.
What support have the tutors and other staff given you?
The staff are very supportive and easy to get in touch with. They have been an amazing support to me during my general placement which was difficult for me.
How do you plan to use what you have learned here? How will doing the course benefit you/the organisation you work in?
Everything I have learnt on this course will enable me to be an evidence based practitioner and offer the best care to birthing people and their partners.
What do you plan to do after graduation?
After graduation I will start working as a midwife either in UK or in France.
What would you say to someone thinking of coming to study here?
Studying midwifery here is a great opportunity to learn about different medical conditions related to pregnancy as Leeds Teaching Hospitals care for women with a variety of additional care needs. This will enable you to work as a midwife anywhere.
What do you think of the city of Leeds/Yorkshire?
For an international student Yorkshire is a beautiful region to visit. Furthermore Leeds is a nice city to live in, bursting with life and with a great food scene.
