I could not have dreamed to be in a better place than Leeds University to conduct my MSc and now my PhD. As I received confirmation of my acceptance I was first and foremost thrilled with the news, but equally impressed to have been liaised with a Leeds ambassador. Leeds University insures that all international students have a chat with current/former student to smooth their transition into the city and university. I have received great tips regarding local amenities and been greatly reassured by my appointed ambassador on the safety of the city as well as the best places to rent a house and where to get the perfect coffee!
As I arrived in Leeds I met with my department, the Psychology department and felt right at home. The staff were extremely friendly and eased all administrative processes regarding registration and course attendance. A few students eagerly volunteered to show me around the department, pointing to the different lecture rooms and labs that could be used.
The lecturers and professors were very impressive in their own unique way, whether by reputation or contribution to their respective fields I was definitely in awe of their accomplishments. Despite all odds, or misconception I might have had that such scholars might be difficult to approach and talk to, I have found that they were all supportive and cared deeply about their students. My appointed advisor routinely asked about my personal wellbeing and was equally concerned about how I adjusted both emotionally and academically to my new life. Hence, as an international student about to start your graduate studies in psychology, I can guarantee you that you are in great hands and will have a wonderful time whilst at Leeds. I certainly wish I could redo it all again.
