At Leeds, we’re proud to be home to one of the largest student unions in the UK. Leeds University Union has over 300 societies including a range of activities from volunteering to dance, football and theatre.

You'll have many opportunities to explore your interests outside of your studies, and we believe there’s something for everyone.

We also have a thriving Global Community, through which you can connect with students from over 140 different countries and take part in a range of international activities.

You'll also have the chance to meet people from your course through PsychSoc - the School's psychology society run by students, for students. Open to all current undergraduate and postgraduate students in the School, PsychSoc organises a number of events and activities every year. From careers fairs to charity events and socials, there are many opportunities to get involved and it’s a great way for you to make new friends.

PsychSoc events and socials

Much of PsychSoc’s work consists of organising events within the School of Psychology. These vary from socials such as the end of year Psychology Ball, to teaming up with academic staff to put on important careers events. Our society also organises a range of volunteering opportunities, allowing students to gain valuable experience as part of our Leeds for Life initiative.

Supporting mental health charities

PsychSoc supports a number of charities who are doing important work in the field of mental health and wellbeing. These include Mind Matters, Mencap and BEAT. Many of the social events which our society puts on, such as cake sales and charity pub quizzes, benefit these organisations.

Psynapse magazine

We also have our own magazine, Psynapse, which is published twice a year by students and alumni. Each issue covers important topics such as the valuable experience of our past students, advice on work placements and study abroad opportunities, volunteering project opportunities and much more.

The magazine was set up to improve communication between staff and students, and getting involved is an excellent way for you to get to know the School, make friends, improve subject knowledge and enhance your CV.
