Claire Cox

Since graduating from the University of Leeds I have undertaken an MSc in Occupational Psychology at the University of Sheffield. This was a 12-month postgraduate course that covered the specified BPS Occupational Psychology areas through teaching, examinations and a major research project

I was fortunate enough to develop my interest in this area of psychology during my undergraduate degree by not only taking the occupational psychology, and occupational health modules in my 1st, and 3rd years of study at Leeds, but also undertaking organisational behaviour and human resource modules during my year abroad at the University of Adelaide.

I thoroughly enjoyed the course, and the networking opportunities it provided; with regular guest lectures from occupational psychologists worldwide, site visits to large organisations, and conferences throughout the UK. Not only were these incredibly interesting to attend, but allowed access to several companies regarding my research project- for which I investigated physical activity (and proposed a framework for an intervention) in the 21st century workplace which advocates sitting at desks for long periods of time.

Upon graduating from the University of Sheffield I obtained employment in Switzerland within an international organisation, working within a globally dispersed team responsible for the strategic element of global mobility. I am really enjoying this extremely fast paced field, which is allowing me to gain great experience whilst also utilizing skills gained throughout my studies. I hope next year to begin the Stage 2 Occupational Psychology training with the British Psychological Society alongside this employment.
