The Athena SWAN Charter is an Advance HE initiative aimed at promoting gender equality in higher education and research. Established in 2005 to support and recognise efforts to advance the careers of women in STEMM (science, technology, engineering, maths, and medicine), the Charter has since expanded to address a broader spectrum of gender equality challenges. Athena SWAN initiatives are dedicated to fostering an inclusive working environment for all members of the University, including academic, professional, support staff, and students.
