A supportive environment for you to grow

“The support at Leeds has been amazing — there are so many people and places you can turn to. My tutors have made me see that I can do more than I ever thought.

The staff here genuinely want to support you and make sure that you’re at your best. From academic personal tutors, student support staff, to the wellbeing library, I couldn’t have got through this course without their motivation, reassurance and understanding.

The Skills@Library provide one-to-one support if you’re struggling with essays and assignments. They’ll look over your work with you and discuss what you can do to improve it. Similarly with my dissertation, I’ve received one-to-one support from an allocated supervisor as well as group support.

Ultimately, everyone at the University wants you to succeed, and they will guide you to get there.”

Nursing

Community is everything

“The nursing community is such a strong community; I have found friendships for life.

I feel so grateful for the people I have met on this course. We’re all going through the same thing, so we’ve all helped and supported one another when we’ve needed it. You build up strong relationships over the three-year course, and it is so nice to talk to someone who can exactly relate to what you’re going through.”

Supporting peers as a student ambassador

“I love being able to support students in my role as an ambassador. It also gives me chance to learn new things, and talking about the course with others reminds me why I wanted to study nursing.’

I get to support my peers at Open Days, through the interview process, at selection events right up to first year students. I love it!

An Open Day is your opportunity to see the university’s campus shine. You’ll attend subject talks, meet academics and fellow nursing students, and take in all that Leeds has to offer as a student hub and city.”

A financial helping hand

“I’ve received the NHS Learning Support Fund which can contribute to your living expenses while studying nursing. Given you’re on placement 50% of the course, it can be really helpful to cover travel costs, help towards bills and food shopping.”

“Joining a society gave me a break from placement and work. I joined the dance society and did tap dancing every Monday.

I’m really grateful that I joined a society. It was fun to compete and gave me a nice break to meet people. I enjoyed it a lot.”
