Maame Owusu-Ansah BSc Psychology alumnus case study 2018

Maame Owusu-Ansah

As an undergraduate I had the opportunity to study fascinating modules such as psychological disorders, human cognition and developmental psychology. From the numerous modules I studied I was more drawn to mental illness I realise. So as an undergraduate I sought the opportunity to do support work with different charities such as ‘Sacaar’ (charity for adults and adolescent with autism) along with others.

I applied for these roles because I felt the need to get the relevant experience to complement the theory I was already learning. I thoroughly enjoyed this work experience and decided to take a year out after university to build on my experiences. So I applied for more roles as a support worker with clients with mental illness both within the clients’ home and the hospital environment. These experiences along with my degree I believe has helped me in securing a place at Kings college London where I will be studying MSc in Child and Adolescent Mental Health.
