Jenni Brookbanks, Alumni, School of Psychology

Jenni Brookbanks

I did my dissertation on the psychology of colour and design as I absolutely loved that module. This led to me gaining a retouching role after university, where the science of colour was really important. It is quite a niche skill to have in the industry and therefore highly valued, so it has opened a lot of doors for me. I then moved into shoot production from there.

A degree from the School of Psychology has benefited me in the workplace as it got me into a really fun and creative field quickly without having to do an arts degree. Psychology lends itself so well to many different career paths, and Leeds' varied range of modules allowed me to specialise into something I love.

If I could, the advice I would now give to myself whilst studying would be to involve myself more into societies - I made a load of contacts in my industry without even realising it from the few societies I dabbled in. If I'd have been more involved in them I'm sure it would have opened up even more doors for me post-graduation!
