Professor Tolib Mirzoev


I am Professor of Global Health Policy at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and a Visiting Professor at the Nuffield Centre for International Health and Development (see our Research, Teaching and Advisory work) with over 20 years experience working with governments, donors and academia. My collaborative research has been funded following competitive processes by the UKRI (MRC, ESRC, GCRF, Research England), EC, NIHR and WHO. I regularly contribute to funding panels of key research funders and an elected member of the Board of Directors of the Health Systems Global. I am also a Fellow of UK Higher Education Academy (FHEA) with substantial experience in teaching, student supervision, guest lecturing, external examining and mentorship.

Research interests

My areas of expertise and interests include: health policy analysis, role of evidence | health systems assessment & strengthening | capacity assessments & strengthening | governance, planning, management | information systems | human resources. My work is exclusively in low- and middle-income countries, mainly in South Asia (e.g. Vietnam, Bangladesh, Nepal, India) and sub-Saharan Africa (e.g. Ghana, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda). Student education

Until March 2021 I led a core module ‘Introduction to Health Systems’ on the MSc in International Health and also teach on all other under- and post-graduate programmes in the Nuffield Centre. I served as external examiner of teaching programmes at Queen Margaret University, UK and University of Cape Town, South Africa. As part of my Visiting Professorship, I contribute to modules covering health policy and systems issues on the MPH International, MSc International Health and BSc International Health.
