Excellent Longstanding Service to Undergraduate Clinical Education

We have awarded three colleagues with an Excellent Longstanding Service Award for Undergraduate Clinical Education.

Leeds School of Medicine wishes to recognise NHS clinical teachers and other NHS staff who are due to retire or have just retired and have a reputation for their commitment to teaching excellence and supporting our medical students over many years.

Dr Graham Woodrow 

Consultant Renal Physician (26 years)

5th Year Lead MBChB (at least 10 years) 

Nominated by a range of colleagues, Dr Graham Woodrow has received an Excellent Longstanding Service Award to recognise his 26 years of service and commitment to Undergraduate Education not only in LTHT but as MBChB Year 5 lead for the University of Leeds.  Read more.

Ms Fiona Coia

Senior Clinical Teacher from 2008

Date of (planned) retirement: 6th April 2023 

Nominated by her colleagues, Ms Fiona Coia has received an Excellent Longstanding Service Award for Undergraduate Clinical Education.

Fiona has been with the Mid Yorks Med Ed team for 15 years, she has been instrumental in building all of the education programmes and placements at the trust for Year 1 to Year 5 students, and has led the team to an award-winning reputation in the region.  Read more.

Mrs Ursula Wood

Clinical Educator since April 2005 (18 years service)

Bradford Royal Infirmary

Nominated by her colleagues, Ursula Wood has received an Excellent Longstanding Service Award for Undergraduate Clinical Education.

Ursula has been part of the Undergraduate Medical Education team at BTHFT since 2005, teaching, mentoring and caring for students from the Leeds Medical School and more lately Physician Associate students from both the University of Leeds and the University of Bradford. She has seen students transition to colleagues as junior doctors and even some transition to Consultancy and also become General Practitioners. Read more.
