The School of Medicine at the University of Leeds has unveiled a new programme to support the clinical entrepreneurs of the future.
Medicine+ will allow students to develop their entrepreneurial skills in a clinical setting and graduate with their medical degree and an MSc in Enterprise.
The School identified a need to encourage smarter, creative solutions from within the NHS to innovate practice, productivity and patient outcomes. The skill set of current medical students therefore needed to be developed to harness entrepreneurial skills, alongside clinical practice, to transform patient care and healthcare delivery for the future.
The Medicine+ Enterprise is a personalised primary medical degree with dedicated enterprise training which is inked to the recognised European Union Entrepreneurship Competency Framework. The scheme is designed to benefit students, the University, the local economy, patients and NHS.
Students can apply for the scheme in year 1 of the MBChB programme and begin work from year 2. Once on the programme, students will benefit from:
- Enterprise training, projects and mentorship
- The opportunity to develop personalised relationships with industry partners
- Internships and summer placements with MSc enterprise partners / mentors
- Specialist intercalated MSc Enterprise with Industry / organisations
- Career development opportunities
The scheme is a UK first and underlines Leeds Medical School’s position as leading excellence in medical education.
