Jo James wins ‘Personal Tutor’ of the year at Leeds University 2019 Partnership Awards

We're very proud to announce that Jo James, Mental Health Nursing Lecturer & PhD student has won Personal Tutor of the year 2019, here at the University. The award is given to the personal tutor who does their utmost to support their students, promoting engagement with academic and co-curricular activities, and facilitating their personal development.
Speaking after receiving the award, Jo said: "Receiving a University Partnership award has been an amazing experience. Our students work hard and supporting them to reach their goals is important, so learning that they have taken the time to nominate me for an award has been an absolute privilege."
The award is special because the winners are nominated by our students. Jo won the award for her excellence in the areas of Positive impact, Personal tutoring and Inspirational teaching. Students submit a written testimonial as part of the nominations and we share a few brief excerpts here:
Personal Tutor:
Jo James is so deserving of this award and my university experience would've been very different without her, she has helped me to progress academically but more importantly has helped me to grow as a person.
Inspirational Teaching:
She makes learning fun and always shares her stories to help us learn from her experiences. She has a really calm tone that destresses the whole group and we all get so happy when we know she’s taking our class. She deserves this award!

Jo goes the extra mile to make sure we’re all okay and is always on hand to help us. She is bright, positive, and shares her wealth of knowledge and experience with us in an inspirational and heart-warming way.
Three awards in five years for School staff
Jo maintains an enviable record for winning the Personal Tutor of the Year in the School of Healthcare. This is the third time in five years, a member of our staff have won the award. Previous winners were Kathryn Waldegrave in 2018 and Dr Una Adderley in 2015.
