School of Healthcare celebrates students, staff and partners
More than 100 students, staff and practice partners from across the School of Healthcare community came together on Friday 28 June to celebrate their achievements and work over the last year.
The event was the first of its kind for the school and aimed to bring together its community to celebrate and showcase the achievements of its students, staff and practice partners through an awards ceremony.
Nominations were collected across 17 categories, including Most Inspiring Student, Star Contributor and Personal Tutor of the Year, and the winners were announced and presented with their award and certificate during the event.
Suzanne Monks, Associate Director of Student Education Student Experience, who led the organising committee for the event, said: “The event was a real opportunity to bring together all the amazing students, staff and practice partners who make up the School of Healthcare community and to reflect on, recognise and celebrate all the impactful work taking place here.
“The awards ceremony gave everyone an opportunity to recognise someone who’s gone above and beyond during their time at Leeds and pay forward the positive impact they’ve made, creating the foundations for further inspiring work.”
The event opened with a video message from Alison Lowe OBE, the West Yorkshire Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime (DMPC), followed by a welcome from Professor Angela Graves, Head of the School of Healthcare.
Two third year students, Cerys May and Ella Thacker, lead the awards ceremony and Child Nursing student Ella Cruz read a poem from her recently published book of poetry as part of the event.
The ceremony concluded with a closing address from Dr Helen Convey, Director of Student Education in the School of Healthcare, before guests enjoyed the celebration event.
