Professor Steven Ersser receives Principal Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA)

Professor Steven Ersser, Dame Kathleen Raven Professor of Clinical Nursing, has been awarded a Principal Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA)

The HEA is the national body which champions teaching quality and seeks to improve learning outcomes by raising the quality and status of teaching in higher education. The most senior level of recognition is Principal Fellowship, in recognition of a sustained and effective record of strategic impact at institutional, national or international level and commitment to wider strategic educational leadership. It is awarded to highly experienced members of senior staff with wide-ranging academic or strategic leadership responsibilities in connection with teaching and learning that typically extend beyond their own institution. 

Head of School Andrea Nelson said, “the University of Leeds strategy puts students first: ‘… every member of staff at the University will continue to have an absolute focus on meeting the needs and aspirations of students, present and future’ and I am delighted that the leadership in student education exemplified by our staff has been recognised by the Higher Education Academy with this top award. This is our first Principal Fellowship and it has been awarded after a robust review with independent accreditors and peer review. This recognised Professor Ersser’s contribution at institutional, and national level and his commitment to wider strategic leadership in teaching."
