UK-China Workshop for Regenerative Dentistry 2018
The UK-China Workshop for Regenerative Dentistry was successfully held from the 22-24 July 2018 at Thorpe Park Hotel in Leeds.
The joint workshop was sponsored by the Researcher Links Scheme within the Newton Fund, the British Council and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). The workshop was co-ordinated by Dr Xuebin Yang, School of Dentistry, University of Leeds, UK and Professor Ling Ye, West China School of Stomatology, Sichuan University, China.
The event was opened by Professor Hai-Sui Yu, Deputy Vice-Chancellor: International, University of Leeds. Professor Jennifer Kirkham, Dean, School of Dentistry, University of Leeds and Professor Ling Ye, Dean, West China School of Stomatology gave welcome addresses and an introduction to both dental schools. Two representatives from NSFC, Dr Fan and Dr Lyu also attended the workshop. Dr Fan delivered an invited oral presentation on funding opportunities available through the NSFC for international collaborations.
A total of 20 Early Career Researchers (ECRs) (9 from China and 11 from the UK) attended the workshop, which provided an opportunity for them to present their work and network with other attendees. Seven keynote lectures, three mentoring sessions, nine networking session, an industry session and five invited talks on funding, career opportunities and international collaborations were also included in the workshop programme.
The international workshop was a platform for the ECRs to enhance their professional development and capacity to disseminate their research findings, exchange knowledge and skills on tooth development and tissue engineering research as well as establish new collaborations. The coordinators and mentors from both UK and China will continue to support the ECRs and a LinkedIn group has been created to maximise communication and potential opportunities between all of the participants.

A total of 20 ECRs from the UK and China attended the workshop as well as 13 keynote and invited speakers (including mentors), two PhD students and seven invited guests. Mrs Kayman and Mrs McDermott, University of Leeds and Ms Jing Yang, Sichuan University facilitated the workshop.
