Profile

I am a NIHR Clinical Lecturer in HPB Surgery at the University of Leeds and Hon. Speciality Surgeon at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. My clinical interests include minimally invasive surgery for pancreatic and biliary diseases. My research interests are focused on the development of nano technologies for precision surgery and to improve outcomes in pancreatic diseases.

I qualified at the University of St Andrews with BSc (Medical Sciences) in 2006 and at the University of Manchester with MBChB in 2009. Post graduate training took place in North West Deanery including a period of research for a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) thesis. Appointed as an Academic Clinical Fellow (ACF) in general surgery for the Yorkshire and Humber Deanery in February 2013 and completed a MRC funded PhD programme in 2020 at the University of Leeds. I am currently an NIHR reviewer for EME programme and chair for White Rose Surgoical Collaborative Scientic Advisory Panel. 

Research interests

Basic Science: 

  • Developing theranostic nanoparticles for cancer imaging and therapy
  • Investigating the physics of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC)
  • Investigating photodynamic and photothermal therapy in PDAC

 Translational research: 

  • Investigating new technologies (Hemopatch) to prevent postoperative pancreatic fistula 

Qualitative research: 

  • Quality Assurance in pancreatic Randomised Clinical Trials
