Research interests

My research group is dedicated to:

  • Improving the care of patients with nerve injury and compression, including:
    • Discovery and translation of quantitative MRI biomarkers
    • Exploring the cost-effectiveness and prognostic utility of different tests (ultrasound, electrodiagnostic and MRI) for planning surgery
    • Real-time postoperative monitoring in patients’ own environment
      • Determining the most safe and effective operations to restore function
  • Optimisation of advanced quantitative MRI methods, including:
    • Reducing SMS-induced bias
    • Reducing bias related to pre-processing
    • Creation of AI-based joint segmentation and registration networks

I also supervise, support and collborate on numerous other research projects with colleagues and students on the following topics:

  • Topical skin antiseptics for the prevention of infection after clean surgery
  • Common elective and emergency operations for common hand conditions
  • Melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer
