Profile
I joined the University of Leeds in 2008 as a Programme Manager for the NIHR PURPOSE Programme Grant. As part of this grant, I led the risk assessment work package to develop a new evidence-based risk assessment instrument for the prevention and management of pressure ulcers, while undertaking a related PhD which I completed in October 2014. I received the European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (EPUAP) 2015 Novice Investigator Award in recognition of early career achievements relevant to pressure ulcers and as part of the project team, the Journal of Wound Care 2015 Wound Assessment and Diagnostics Award recognising innovation and excellence in research and practice.
In 2016 I became an NIHR Post-Doc Fellow, undertaking a Realist Evaluation of Pressure Ulcer Risk Assessment Instruments. Other recent work involves a national Pressure Ulcer and Wounds Audit (PUWA) considering the accuracy of PU monitoring systems in NHS in-patient facilities in England; work to develop a minimum data set for wound assessment practice; co-applicant of the HTA PRESSURE 2 Trial; project team and methodology group member for the international COMET registered core outcomes project ‘Outcomes for Pressure Ulcer Trials’ (OUTPUTS); member of an international Clinical Guideline Group for Risk Assessment (EPAUAP/NPUAP/PPPIA).
From an NHS perspective I sit on several important national groups (Leading Change Adding Value Framework - Improving Wound Care Project, stop the pressure steering committee) to influence practice and policy relating to risk assessment, wound assessment and PU monitoring.
Research interests
I am interested in skin portfolio work with a focus on pressure ulcer prevention, risk assessment and wound assessment. From a methodological perspective I have an interest in epidemiological research, consensus methods, instrument development and evaluation methods, cognitive pre-testing methods (focus groups and think out loud interviews) and alternative complex intervention evaluation methods including realist evaluation.
