Institute to introduce refreshed Health Informatics course to train next generation of professionals

Health Informatics with Data Science is due to have its first intake in 2022. The revised course will bring Leeds' health sciences and data expertise to an innovative research-led curriculum.

Designed by the Institute of Health Sciences, the course will bring in expertise from a number of research fields within the School of Medicine, from the Academic Unit of Health Economics through to Leeds Institute of Data Analytics, both world recognised centres of research. By learning from those who are at the forefront of their disciplines, students will have the chance to learn up-to-date techniques, benefitting from innovative new thinking and honing the skills they need to excel in their professions.

The course is designed to allow students to develop an understanding of the real-world applications of data within healthcare settings, they’ll have the opportunity to gain a detailed insight into the origins and flows of data used in health professions, recognising their use to deliver care that best benefits patients.

The planned curriculum will span data modelling, informatics, visualisation and artificial intelligence amongst other key specialties. Core modules will be complemented with a range of optional modules designed to give more a more tailored learning experience, allowing for greater specialisation with professional development in mind.
