Michael Manogue graduated in Dental Surgery with Commendation from the University of Dundee in 1982. He was the Faculty of Medicine and Health’s Pro Dean for Education between 2000 and 2003 and the Director of Student Education at the University of Leeds School of Dentistry between 2004 and 201 and holds that role again from 2015 to the present. He led the implementation and review of a major undergraduate curriculum change and the creation of a flagship Integrated Masters Degree in Dental Surgery, the first in the UK.
He worked in various hospital posts for five years after graduation, in General Dental practice for a further three and arrived in Leeds in 1989 as an MDSc student. His academic career began here in 1993 as a Lecturer in Restorative Dentistry, becoming a Senior Lecturer in 2000 and he became a Professor of Dental Education in 2006.
He contributes regularly to national and international conferences on Dental Education, was the Editor in Chief of the European Journal of Dental Education for 11 years, is a reviewer for several Journals and is supervising four PhD students, principally in Dental Education research. He also leads the Dental Education and Scholarship Research Group at the School of Dentistry

Student education
Professor Manogue is the Director of Student Education for the School of Dentistry and has overall responsibility for all taught student programmes offered. The School offers programmes in Dental Surgery, MChD/BChD, BSc (the unique Integrated Masters programme), which has an International variant, a BSc in Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy, an MClinDent in Advanced Dental Practice, an MSc in Restorative Dentistry or Implant Dentistry (articulated with the Faculty of General Dental Practice UK) and an MSc in Paediatric Dentistry. He works closely with five Associate Directors for Student Education: Admissions, Assessment, Quality Assurance, Clinical Programmes and Student Support.
