Profile
I am an Associate Professor in the School of Psychology. I gained my PhD at the University of York on the topic of the neural basis of facial expression processing, and following this I have held research positions at the Institute of Psychiatry, Kings College London, and University of Adelaide, Australia. I have also held a Leeds Institute for Teaching Excellence Fellowship, undertaking a project on a “Global Citizenship Education” with my colleagues Dr. Maddi Pownall and Dr. Pam Birtill.
I am currently Director of Student Education in the School of Psychology and have held several student-education focussed roles, for example, Disability Tutor, Admissions Tutor and Assessment Lead.
I was the founding member of the scholarship of teaching and learning research group, Research in the Psychology of Student Education. I am currently the General Secretary for the European Society for Psychology Learning and Teaching, and an Associate Editor for the journal of Psychology Learning and Teaching.
I have also contributed nationally to the development of teaching practice, including working with the Quality Assurance Agency (UK) to unpack the ‘hidden curriculum’ for students.

Research interests
My pedagogical research interests are broadly aligned to topics related to psychological literacy, education for global challenges, and the methods and approaches of educational scholarship. I am also particularly passionate about collective work that aims to make psychological education more evidence-based, research-informed, and collaborative across cultures and contexts

Student education
As Director for Student Education, I am responsible for facilitating developments to the School’s teaching and learning provision. I am currently working on initiatives to improve how disseminate key student education related information to students and staff, and have a significant role in developing the new curriculum for Psychology.
I am Module Leader for the first-year module Applied Research Skills and Statistics.
