Profile

I am a PhD researcher in the School of Psychology funded by Leeds Opportunity Research Scholarships (LORS).

Research interests

My research broadly explores how culture, context and education intersect to shape both pedagogical practice and psychological understanding.

Culturally-Informed Pedagogy — I focus on the implementation of Psychological First Aid (PFA) interventions within educational settings, exploring how PFA can be integrated into the curriculum to ensure the ‘global citizenship’ of students, who are simultaneously mobilised to respond to the acute mental health needs of individuals affected by the increasing frequency of environmental disasters worldwide. My current research is based in Malang, Indonesia.

My pedagogical research also examines the experiences of minoritised populations in higher education, particularly within the British South Asian demographic. I explore how cultural nuances shape students’ experiences and investigate how universities can better support these groups. For example, my recent publication, ‘I wanna make my parents proud rather than I wanna make myself proud’: Imposter phenomenon among South Asian undergraduate students, reflects this interest.

Islamic Psychology — I also explore the intersections between Islamic and Western psychological paradigms, examining both the synergies and tensions between the two, and considering the implications of this relationship for psychological theory and practice.
