Dr Nichola Jones

Profile

I’m a postdoctoral researcher and teaching fellow with a focus on creative, community-led approaches to global public health. My work centres on health disparities in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), with a particular interest in antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and gender.
I completed my PhD in Health Sciences at the University of Leeds in 2023. My research explored how participatory arts—especially participatory video—can be used to understand and address the community-level drivers of AMR (antimicrobial resistance), with a focus on gendered behaviours and social norms. This interdisciplinary project bridged the faculties of Health Sciences and Arts, Culture and Humanities.
My most recent research work was on the COSTAR project, supporting participatory video training, implementation and evaluation. I also hold a teaching fellowship at the Nuffield Centre for International Health and Development, where I teach across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, supervise research projects, and serve as internal Ethics Chair.
My teaching experience spans public health, research methods, and qualitative inquiry, including work with international cohorts and medical students. I’m passionate about using arts-based methods to engage communities, amplify underrepresented voices, and inform policy and practice in global health.
