Dr Fiona Thorne

Profile

Fiona is a Clinical Tutor on the Clinical Psychology training programme with responsibility for Personal and Professional Development. In her NHS role she works in the Mid-Yorkshire clinical health psychology service for Oncology and Palliative Care.

Before completing training in clinical psychology Fiona completed two research fellowships. Her first research fellowship explored the psychosocial impact of the spinal condition idiopathic scoliosis. Prior to this research, the psychological effects of scoliosis (which affects approximately 1% of the female population) had not been explored. Her second fellowship involved administering a national project exploring the relationship between dementia and Down’s syndrome and sought to develop a new psychometric tool to assess neurological change in people with learning disability.

Research interests

Current research interests: Clinical health psychology – particularly palliative care, oncology and pain, leadership and psychological resilience.
