Building upon a 20 year NHS career I joined the University of Leeds in 2002, I was awarded a Promotional Chair in Tissue Viability and Clinical Trials Research in 2009 and appointed an NIHR Senior Investigator in 2016 and 2020. In 2017 I was awarded an MBE for services to health research.
Since joining the University of Leeds I have led the development of trials and applied health research in pressure ulcer prevention and the Leeds Clinical Trials Research Unit skin portfolio as a clinical trialist. Significant awards include:

3 large late phase mattress trials - HTA PRESSURE 2 (chief investigator, 2030 patients), HTA PRESSURE (co-app, 1971 patients) and OR mattress (chief investigator, 466 patients);
2 DFU infection diagnostic studies including HTA CODIFI (co-app, 399 patients) and CODIFI 2 (co-app, currently recruiting) and;
a seemless early to late multi-stage multi-arm trial design in DFUs (HTA MIDFUT (co-app, currently recruiting).
I have strong national and international collaborations and I am Past President of the European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel, Past Chair of the Tissue Viability Society and inaugural Chair of the Wounds Research Network.
