I have worked as the Clinical Skills Education Team Technician since 2006. Prior to my role at the University I worked as a Technologist for The Confederation of British Wool Textiles.

Student education

Clinical Skills Education Team Technician.

Responsible for the routine operation of The Clinical Skills Education technical laboratories, store and associated equipment. Provide teaching support to undergraduate medical and dental students taught within the Leeds Clinical Practice Centre. Responsible for the ordering, preparation, maintenance and repair of kit. Provide technical support to Clinical Skills Educators.

Departmental Health and Safety Supervisor, ensuring Clinical Skills Education staff are up to date with Health and safety related training. Ensure correct and safe usage of varied laboratory equipment by undergraduates, postgraduates and members of staff. Responsible for general maintenance and security of the laboratory and store. Responsible for monitoring activities of self and others in the course of work to ensure that health and safety regulations are properly observed.

Assist in the development of written procedures, guidelines and protocols (e.g. risk assessment) in support of safe practice and activities where appropriate. Advise staff, students, trainees and visitors on matters of technique and use of laboratory equipment and maintenance. This may involve informal one to one training, demonstrations or provision of advice. Liaison with outside the UOL agencies, equipment suppliers and repairers.
