Research interests
As an academic trainee, I am interested in a wide variety of topics related to Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. I would be delighted to collaborate with anyone sharing a common interest so please do get in touch!
Major peripheral nerve injury (the subject of my NIHR Doctoral Research Fellowship):
- Novel magnetic resonance imaging for diagnosing traumatic brachial plexus root avulsions
- fMRI studies of cortical plasticity in response to peripheral nerve injury
- Brain MR spectroscopy for biomarkers of pain and recovery following brachial plexus injury
- Histopathological analysis of peripheral nerve injury following pre-ganglionic injury
Skin cancer:
- Haematological biomarkers of outcomes in cutaneous melanoma
- Risk modelling to prevent unnecessary lymph node surgery for melanoma
- Perfusion MRI for measuring the response of metastatic melanoma to checkpoint inhibitor immunotherapy
- Efficacy of different surgeries for skin cancer of the fingertip
Hand surgery:
- Different preoperative prep solutions to reduce the risk of surgical site infection
- Time to emergency surgery for open hand injuries
- Diagnostic accuracy of Kanavel signs for pyogenic flexor tenosynovitis
- Randomised trials concerning the management of common hand injuries and fractures
- Kinesiology tape for osteoarthritis of the fingers
Burns:
- Hydrosurgery versus conventional surgery for debriding burnt skin
- The role of fibrin glues in split skin grafting
Soft tissue sarcoma:
- The accuracy of MRI for differentiating malignant and benign soft tissue tumours
- The accuracy of MRI for diagnosing major nerve or vascular involvement by soft tissue sarcoma
Breast
- DIEP flap breast reconstruction preoperative risk modelling
- Perforator mapping for DIEP flap breast reconstruction
