Research interests
The areas of active research for me and my group include:
- Improving the care of surgical nerve disorders (e.g., major nerve injury and nerve compression):
- Quantitative MRI for diagnosing neuropathy and monitoring recovery
- The cost-effectiveness and prognostic utility of different tests (ultrasound, electrodiagnostic and MRI) for planning surgery
- Real-time postoperative monitoring in patients’ own environment
- The safest and most effective operations to restore function
- Optimisation of advanced methods for diffusion-weighted MRI:
- Reducing SMS-induced bias
- Investigation denoising-induced bias
- Creation of AI-based joint segmentation and registration networks
- Preprocessing to mitigate EPI-induced distortions
I also supervise, support and collborate on numerous other research projects with colleagues and students on the following topics:
- Topical skin antiseptics for the prevention of infection after clean surgery
- Common elective and emergency operations for common hand conditions
- Melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer
