Dr Naomi Quinton

Profile

I have worked at the University of Leeds for 25 years and within LIME since 2006. I was initially employed by LIME to consider the role of patients as teachers and have since developed a portfolio of research interests in clinical education.
I am the School of Medicine’s Academic Lead for inclusive pedagogies promoting and embedding inclusive practice within our school’s disciplinary context. The University of Leeds holds inclusion as one of its core values and as a School we are committed to developing our various programmes to have inclusion at their centre.
My recent leadership roles in teaching included the being Programme lead for the BSc in Applied Health (Medical Education) /BSc Clinical Education programme for intercalating medical students and teaching on the MBChB, PG Cert and Masters in Clinical Education programmes. My main teaching topics include educational theory and practice, qualitative research methods, and critical reading and writing.
Currently I am the Lead for the Doctoral Programme in Clinical Education (DClinEd) and LIME’s Lead for Postgraduate Research Studies.
I research aspects of clinical education related to inclusive practice including for example, gender, disability and race. I supervise clinical education research at all levels, from undergraduate through to post-doctoral work. I welcome interest from prospective PhD or DClinEd students.

Research interests

My current research interests in medical education lie in inclusive practice where I am exploring how inclusion and the adoption of inclusive pedagogies can inform and benefit all in developing their clinical practice. I am particularly interested in the intersectionality of gender and race and how this impacts doctors’ careers. I also remain interested in skills development and relfecxive practice, interprofessional working, and workplace transitions, owing to my previous work and publications in these areas.
I am experienced in qualitative and quantitative research approaches and support students in developing their understanding of methodologies and methods. I supervise clinical education research projects at all levels, including PhD/DClinEd students.
