Profile
My role as a clinical skills educator involves facilitating, teaching and assessing clinical skills to multidisciplinary health care undergraduates which includes
1st year medical students: Moving and handling, vital signs and hand washing.
2nd year medical students Medicine Management.
3rd year medical students: Clinical skills: ECG, ABG, Rectal, breast examination, fundoscopy, testicular, and Otoscopy examinations. The principles of Asepsis, catheterisation & cannulation.
4th year medical students: GOSH.
5th Year medical students: Workshops to assist in preparing students for F1 post. I facilitate RRAPID (Recognising, Responding to Acute Illness AND Deterioration).
The role also involves facilitating a clinical skills module to year 4 dental students. Providing Moving and handling, hand washing assessments and basic life support to cardio physiology audiology radiographer
I also support the Physician Associate programme.
I am an educational supervisor to students who are intercalating into Medical Education. I am also a personal tutor for 1st year medical students
A significant amount of my clinical experience has been in Gastrointestinal Oncology in the Bexley Wing Oncology Centre St James and Cookridge Hospital Leeds. My role as chemoradiotherapy nurse specialist and research nurse spanned for 15 years, supporting patients throughout the chemoradiotherapy oncology pathway, from diagnosis through to completion of treatment.
Other clinical experiences have included providing holistic nursing care to patients requiring non-surgical and surgical oncology treatments, patients with acute and chronic renal failure, who required haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. I supported patients post renal transplantation.
In 2012 I joined Sue Ryder – Wheatfields hospice as a clinical educator prior to joining the team here in October 2014.
I have a BSc Honours degree in Healthcare studies. Post Graduate Certificate in Research, Post Graduate Certificate in Medical Education, ENB 237 Adult Oncology
