Profile

I provide overall operational organisation and management for the Healthcare Associated Infection (HCAI) Research Group across the University of Leeds and Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust ensuring the successful delivery of the HCAI research portfolio and development of future funding submissions/research proposals.  The HCAI research portfolio consists of in-vitro gut model studies, diagnostic and laboratory evaluations, surveillance studies, clinical trials and central laboratory testing (for clinical trials).  Funding is received from a variety of sources, including but not limited to pharmaceutical and diagnostic industries, IMI2 (Horizon2020, EU), National Institute of Health Research (UK), MRC, Innovate UK, Healthcare Infection Society, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (US) and National Institute of Health (NIH).

Research interests

The group's research is linked to the interests and priorities of HCAI infection diagnosis and management, infection control, antimicrobial resistance and the microbiome and operates a shared goal of excellence across academia, patient care and public health.  The group is a world leader in Clostridum difficile research.
