Profile
Dr Lucy Beishon appointed 2026 is a Clinical Associate Professor in Geriatric Medicine at the University of Leeds and Honorary Consultant Geriatrician at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
Lucy completed her medical training at the University of Leicester and subsequently completed the NIHR integrated academic training pathway across Nottingham and Leicester hospital Trusts. She was awarded a Vivensa Foundation research training fellowship in 2018 to investigate the effects of brain training on brain blood flow in healthy older people and people living with mild cognitive impairment or dementia.
Lucy continued her research through an NIHR funded academic clinical lectureship and received an NIHR Three Schools Career Development Award and Vivensa Foundation pilot grant to undertake a mixed methods study to improve access to physical healthcare for older people receiving secondary mental healthcare (people living with severe mental illness and dementia).
Lucy currently holds an NIHR Advanced fellowship to design, evaluate, and scale an integrated physical-mental health service for older people in inpatient mental health settings. This work will be conducted across Bradford and Leeds mental health Trusts.
Lucy is currently the deputy chair for the integrated psychiatric and geriatric care task and finish group which sits within the EuGMS Brain Health and Dementia Specialist Interest Group. She is also a representative on the British Geriatrics Society Dementia, Delirium, and Brain Health Specialist Interest Group.
Research interests
My current research interests focus on developing an integrated physical-mental health service for older people on inpatient mental health units. In the future I am interested in expanding this work to primary care services and the community setting. I have recently completed an NIHR Team Science Award investigating the intersection between medications, mental health, and mobility for people with multiple long-term conditions and multimorbidity. I am an external supervisor for a PhD student developing a new physical activity intervention for older people with severe mental illness receiving secondary mental healthcare.
