Associate Professor Dr Alison Brown

Profile

I am Associate Professor for Medical Education, having worked in Medical Education and as a General Practitioner for over 20 years.

My work in medical education started as GP Lead for medical student placements in my own GP practice until in 2005 I was appointed as GP Lead for Undergraduate Medical Education by Bradford teaching PCT to support recruitment of teaching practices to support placement provision for MBChB at the University of Leeds, using a co-development partnership model.

Along with my team we developed support for recruitment and retention of GP practices providing undergraduate clinical placements and developed a Quality assurance and enhancement system to support GP placement provision. This involved supporting individual practices, review of student evaluation, and ensuring curriculum integration through development and delivery of Continuing Professional Development workshops for GP Tutors at regional level.

I went on to support development of clinical teaching and placement within the early years MBChB curriculum, including during the challenges of the covid-19 pandemic. During this time I also contributed to a national HEE virtual work experience package to support prospective medical students in their applications to medicine. Most recently I am involved in strategic MBChB curriculum development in relation to personal and professional development and professional identity development.

My interests are supported at a national level by enaggement with UKCEMP ( UK Council for Educators of Medical Professionalism) who support the development of medical education in relation to professionalism.
