Profile

I am responsible for the academic, operational, and financial sustainability of the Leeds MBChB Programme, where 15,00 students from home and abroad study Medicine. I work with the Faculty Deputy Dean(Student Education) and other key stakeholders to effectively deliver and develop broader healthcare education and programmes. I am a Medical Schools Council Education Leads Group member and an NHS England Undergraduate Medical Education Reform Adaptor Group member. I contribute to innovating undergraduate medical education and training aligned with the NHS Long-term Workforce Plan.

I completed the basic physician training (Core Medical Training) at various West Midlands, England clinical rotations. I then completed the higher speciality training in Geriatric Medicine and General Internal Medicine at the NHS England West Midlands. During the higher speciality training years, I was awarded the prestigious Jed Rowe Award in the West Midlands Geriatric Medicine Training Programme. I have successfully taken various roles in both undergraduate and postgraduate education arenas. These included Foundation Training Programme Director, Deputy Head of Undergraduate Medical Education, Chair Examiner in MRCP Clinical Examinations in the UK and internationally, Senior Clinical Examiner and Senior Invigilator in Undergraduate OSCE Assessments, and External Examiner in Undergraduate OSCE Assessments.

I have acquired a vast portfolio of inclusive practice in medical education, evidenced by my appointment as the inaugural chair of inclusive practice in UK Higher Education. I am a University Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Committee member. I help direct the strategies and action plans for promoting equality and inclusion within the broader Leeds academic community. Additionally, I am a member of the Athena Swan Steering Committee (ASSG) at the School of Medicine. I contribute to various gender equality initiatives, including the International Women's Day Celebration. I am the founding chair of the Inclusion Advisory Group, a Council Member at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (RCPSG), and the first ED&I Lead at the British Geriatrics Society.

I have a track record of success in Academic Leadership. I have successfully taken on different leadership roles, including the RCPSG Regional Physician Advisor West Midlands. I am the Director of Medical Examinations at the RCPSG and a board member of the Clinical Examining Board (CEB) at the MRCP(UK). I am a Hospital Senior MRCP Clinical Examiner (HSE) at the RCPSG. I established the MRCP Clinical Examination Centre at Sandwell General Hospital in Birmingham and have regularly hosted the examinations since 2016. I have provided accountable leadership to convene the first RCPSG MRCP Clinical Examination with a hybrid format during the pandemic and the first MRCP Clinical Examination with a new format (PACES23) in England. I am active in global medical education initiatives and have been conferred a visiting professorship at Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute India for collaborative educational work.

I am actively involved in medical education research. I have served as the principal investigator in various quality improvement studies to ensure the quality of different learning initiatives and innovations in assessment and training. I maintain an active clinical practice as an honorary consultant physician and geriatrician in the NHS, with a special interest in Parkinson's disease.
