Dr Faye Bennett

Profile

In 2011 I graduated from the University of Nottingham with a BSc in Animal Sciences. Following this, I studied for an MSc in Human Anatomy at the University of Edinburgh, graduating in late 2014. In October 2015 I joined the University of Leeds to study for a PhD in Medical Education as part of an Anatomy Demonstrator Studentship.

In May 2018, I was successful in an application to become a permanent member of the academic staff at the University, when I was awarded the position of Teaching Fellow in Anatomy.

I was awarded my PhD in 2023 after completing my studies part-time alongside full time employment at the University.

Responsibilities

  • MBChB Year 0 Co-Lead

Research interests

My research interests are strongly rooted in the ethics surrounding body donation, as well as medical student behaviours and attitudes towards body donors. I have also developed an interest in professionalism, specifically professional identity formation and how this might occur amongst medical students as part of the hidden curriculum within practical anatomy classes. On a more philosophical level, I am interested in exploring perceptions of what is meant by “respect towards the dead” and how this manifests in different subsets of individuals working in different ways with the dead.

My PhD focused on medical student attitudes towards receiving more detailed body donor information than is typically provided, as well as investigating medical student reactions after being provided with such information. I use mainly qualitative methods in my research.

I would welcome PhD applications, or collaborations with other academics/researchers, in any of the above areas. Please feel free to contact me if you have ideas you would like to discuss this further.
