Wendy Burton

I graduated from Leeds Beckett University with a BSc (Hons) Public Health Nutrition. Following that, I began working at the Leeds Institude of Clinical Trials Research. Currently, I'm based within the diet and obesity porfolio of the complex interventions division working on several projects centred around an obesity prevention programme called HENRY (Health, Exercise and Nutrition for The Really Young). I registered for a part time PhD in 2015 and my thesis is also linked to the HENRY programme.

Research interests

I am interested in the implementation and participant uptake of complex interventions. Low uptake of programmes such as HENRY threatens their reach, impact and sustainability. My thesis began with a rapid ethnography study to explore what the factors were that influenced participant engagement with HENRY before developing a complex intervention to promote engagement; The HENRY Optimisation Intervention. Currently, I am undertaking a theory driven process evaluation of the HENRY Optimisation Intervention to establish whether the proposed behavioural outcomes were achieved and why.
