Profile

I am a registered nurse (adult feild and teacher). I worked as a clinical nurse before moving into education and I am an established lecturer in nursing, ethics & law. 

I am a Health Research Authoity, Research Ethics Committee, Expert Member.

Research interests

The focus of my PhD research was proxy decision making by non-professional, informal, unpaid carers, on behalf of individuals who are living with dementia

  • The aim was to understand the thinking of proxy deciders and to consider how carers who are proxy deciders can be supported
  • A scoping review and two empirical qualitative studies were undertaken
  • Thematic analysis, the framework approach and aplication of Construal Level Theory were used to analyse and interpret data

Student education

I teach ethics and law across a range of professional groups and academic levels. I am interested in facilitating critical thinking and discusion so that all perspectives can be explored and I plan my sessions to promote learner engagement. 

I also teach nursing content related to leading self, leading teams and leading services. This includes professioonal conduct and raising concerns, managing change and influencing policy. As part of my University Student Education Fellowship, I developed and implemented a learning and teaching strategy to support nursing students in their transition to registered practitioners and this work continues.
