Neve McLean

Profile

I am a Research Assistant on the First 1,000 Days Project, an initiative dedicated to improving health and social outcomes for families and children in the first two years of life. I contribute to the core project, where I help implement and co-produce interventions and strategies to integrate group care into health systems.

I earned my PhD in infant Nutirtion from the University of Otago, New Zealand, in 2023. My doctoral research focused on the impact of various feeding methods – specifically baby food pouches and baby-led weaning – on nutrient intake and iron status in New Zealand infants. The findings from my research are actively shaping infant feeding guidelines and food policy in New Zealand. During my PhD, I also worked as a Teaching Fellow and Research Assistant, where I supported various projects focused on paediatric nutrition and health.

After completing my PhD, I worked as a Portfolio Research Officer at the National Institute for Health and Care Research, where I contributed to delivering health care research across England. Additionally, I held a part-time remote position as an Assistant Research Fellow at the University of Otago, where I managed the submission and revision process for research publications.
