Dr Jenny Retzler

Profile

I acquired a BSc in Psychology, MSc in Cognitive Neuroscience and Neuroimaging, and a PhD comparing the neurocognitive correlates of inattention in those born term and very preterm from the University of Nottingham. I then worked for two years in health outcomes research consultancy at York Health Economics Consortium, giving me additional expertise in service evaluations, the measurement of patient preferences, and utility elicitation for health technology assessment. In 2018, I began lecturing in Developmental Psychology at the University of Huddersfield, before joining the University of Leeds in 2024.

Research interests

My key research interests centre around the development of executive function and attention, and the causes and impacts of atypical neurocognitive development in populations with known risk factors (e.g. those born very preterm, or with chromosomal variations).

I am currently co-investigator on two externally funded research projects:

  • iKIDS - The impact of interactive electronic devices: understanding the mechanisms of benefits and harms on young children's development, behaviour and health outcomes using a multimethod approach. Award ID: NIHR159040 - find out more here: https://fundingawards.nihr.ac.uk/award/NIHR159040
  • RISUP Phase 2 - Reducing demand for illicit substances in young people through co-production, skills training and early intervention

Student education

I lecture on topics around developmental psychology at undergraduate and MSc level. I also lead a MSc module around neurotypical and diverse development, and supervise MSc projects on topics relating to individual differences in attention and executive function.
